High Line Opens in Chelsea!
Just this past week, New Yorkers witnessed the highly anticipated opening of the high line park, a creative reimagining of the disused train trestle in the meat packing district. This new addition to Chelsea's public park areas has been in the works for many years now, and finally the first section of the park has opened, with an entrance on Gansevoort and Washington Streets. A long set of steps leads up to the pathway, which is spacious and wonderfully landscaped. The planting and design evokes the feeling of the old train tracks that ran along the elevated platform. There are old train tracks and carefully planted flowers and plants that are landscaped to look like overgrown brush on the side of train tracks. The views of the newly renovated lower Chelsea area are to the east and fantastic views of the waterfront, Hudson River, and New Jersey are to the west. In the day go for a walk and a picnic on the benches or in the early evening go for the wonderful views and a refreshing light breeze.
Don't forget to share what you think of this addition to the Chelsea area!
