The Chelsea Art Museum, Home of the Miotte Foundation, was founded in 2002 on the legacy of the Informel artist Jean Miotte. The museum is located in the heart of the Chelsea neighborhood, and presents contemporary American and International artists. Through exhibitions and programs, we offer our visitors the insight into cutting edge new media, visual arts, and performing arts. Each exhibition is complimented by a series of public programs such as docent tours, educational programs, music concerts, private parties, dance performances, artist talks, round-tables and more!
Sign up for the Destination Chelsea newsletter to receive 2 for 1 admission to the museum AND 1 FREE coffee at the on-site Illy Espresso Bar. In March 2010 the Chelsea Art Museum welcomes you to visit the three new exhibitions from three different international artists with varying artistic visions, approaches, and messages:

Yibin Tian: Our New York
March 5th-April 17th
In his multimedia exhibition, consisting of C-print photographs, 3D-sculptures and video installation, Chinese artist Yibin Tian captures the North Korean military authoritarianism through strong metaphors of power. His artwork provokes questions about our own freedom and mechanism of political systems control over peoples' lives. Tian's work holds relevance in its timely cultural and social value especially given the recent political crisis resulting from North Korean nuclear testing.

Kotaro Fukui: Silent Flowers and Ostriches
March 5th-April 17th
For this exhibition, the extraordinary 24 foot painting "Silent Flower" was transported from Tokyo. Impressive visions of ostriches, irises, and peonies painted with brush ink and lapis lazuli on Japanese handmade paper, transcend timeless themes of nature, human role and Eastern spirituality. Kotaro Fukui often accompanies his artwork with improvisational performances which are linked to the concept of Zen philosophy. A performance in the Chelsea Art Museum is held on Saturday March 6th at 4:30 pm, following a talk with the curator at 4 pm (free with 2 for 1 admission).

Jenny Marketou: Lighter Than Fiction
March 5th-April 3rd
The Project Room for New Media at CAM presents an installation that juxtaposes two video works: "Bubbles" - a public participatory sculpture created with an air balloon floating above the city of Prague, and "Level of Disturbance" - an audio / visual work recorded from a small jet while flying over the natural landscape around Los Alamos, New Mexico. Marketou investigates the precarious balance between reality and fiction by capturing the view from above where the lightness of utopian sensations and imagery are contrasted by dystopian realities. Meet-the-Artist on March 18th at 6.30 pm, hosted by Christiane Paul, Adjunct Curator of New Media Arts, Whitney Museum of American Art (free with 2 for 1 admission).
